A Dallas man has been arrested after police say a meeting arranged through an online marketplace turned into a violent kidnapping that left a victim stripped and abandoned inside a dumpster.
According to the Garland Police Department, the incident began around 3:45 p.m. Saturday at a park in the 1200 block of North Glenbrook Drive in Garland, Texas. Investigators say the victim had gone to the park to meet someone who claimed to be interested in buying an item he had posted for sale online.
Instead of completing a sale, the victim was confronted by three suspects, two of whom were reportedly armed. Police say the men forced the victim into his own vehicle at gunpoint and drove him across the city.
During the ordeal, authorities say the suspects ordered the victim to remove most of his clothing and covered his face before transporting him to a parking lot on West Kingsley Road. Investigators said two of the suspects then pushed the victim into a dumpster and fled the scene in his vehicle, taking his belongings with them.
The victim later managed to call 911 and provide police with descriptions of the suspects, prompting an investigation.
Police later located one of the suspects, 26-year-old Devonte Dashune Turner of Dallas, on Great Trinity Forest Parkway. Authorities say officers attempted to detain Turner and chased him on foot before taking him into custody.
Turner has been charged with aggravated kidnapping and is currently being held in the Garland Jail on a $250,000 bond, according to police. Investigators are still working to identify and locate the two additional suspects believed to be involved in the attack.
The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue gathering evidence and searching for the remaining suspects.
