DUMFRIES, Va. — Shoppers at a Walmart in Dumfries were left stunned Tuesday morning after a man allegedly ran through the store naked, causing chaos and prompting multiple calls to police.
Authorities identified the suspect as Lance Irving Lesane Jr., 20, of Dumfries. Officers responded to the Walmart on Richmond Highway shortly before 9 a.m. after reports of a man unclothed and chasing customers inside the store.
According to police, Lesane had removed all his clothing and was running through aisles while yelling and approaching shoppers. No injuries were reported, but several customers fled to other areas of the store or exited the building in fear.
When officers arrived, they located Lesane still inside the store and took him into custody without incident. Investigators say he appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance at the time.
Lesane has been charged with indecent exposure, disorderly conduct, and public intoxication. He was transported to a local detention facility for processing. Authorities have not released information regarding bond or future court dates.
Store operations were briefly disrupted during the incident, and management worked with law enforcement to restore normal business. Walmart staff did not comment publicly, but customers described the scene as shocking and surreal.
The investigation remains ongoing. Police did not indicate whether additional charges may be filed. Officials encouraged anyone who witnessed the incident and left before speaking with officers to contact the department.
Residents expressed concern about public safety but also noted the increasingly unpredictable nature of real-time emergencies in everyday spaces.
No further details have been announced.
