Trans Woman Found Dead Near Houston Bayou Identified as Persia Amarra Conway

Date:

A transgender woman whose body was discovered near Brays Bayou in southwest Houston over Memorial Day weekend has been identified as 33-year-old Persia Amarra Conway, according to reports from LGBTQ+ media outlets and community advocates.

Conway’s body was found on the morning of May 25 near the 8900 block of Country Creek, close to Brays Bayou. According to the Houston Police Department, two pedestrians discovered the body and contacted authorities. First responders pronounced her dead at the scene. Investigators initially described the victim as a transgender woman believed to be between 24 and 30 years old before her identity was confirmed.

Police have not publicly announced any arrests in the case. Detectives indicated early in the investigation that the circumstances surrounding the death appeared suspicious and were being treated as a possible homicide. Authorities also noted that the victim was found without clothing, leading investigators to explore whether evidence may have been removed from the scene.

The discovery sparked concern throughout Houston’s LGBTQ+ community, particularly among transgender advocates who have called for a thorough investigation and justice for Conway and her loved ones. Her death drew national attention as transgender organizations and community members shared tributes online while seeking answers about what happened in the hours leading up to her death.

The area where Conway was found has been the site of previous violent crimes involving transgender women. Investigators are continuing to review evidence, search for surveillance footage, and interview potential witnesses as they work to determine exactly how she died.

As of June 1, authorities have not released additional details regarding a suspect or motive. Anyone with information related to the case is encouraged to contact the Houston Police Department or local Crime Stoppers.
