He Started Twerking… Then Started Swinging: Wild Navy Yard Attack Leaves Women Injured

Date:

A bizarre and violent incident in Washington, D.C. has left residents shaken after police say a man turned what appeared to be a strange display of dancing into a full-blown assault.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the incident happened on April 19 in the busy Navy Yard area, right outside a TD Bank near Nationals Park. What started as confusion quickly escalated into chaos when a man allegedly approached a group of women and began twerking in front of them without warning.

Witnesses told police the behavior wasn’t just odd—it was aggressive. When one woman attempted to walk away, the suspect reportedly turned around and punched her. As she tried to defend herself, things escalated further. Authorities say she was tackled to the ground and repeatedly assaulted, not just by the original suspect but by at least one additional attacker.

Police say the same disturbing pattern repeated itself with another woman in the group: the suspect allegedly danced provocatively in front of her before suddenly turning violent and striking her.

Officers were flagged down after a large fight broke out, but by the time they arrived, the suspects had already fled the scene. Despite searching the area, no arrests were immediately made. Investigators later released an image of the primary suspect and are asking the public for help identifying him.

The randomness of the attack has raised serious concerns. This wasn’t a dispute that escalated—it was, according to reports, completely unprovoked. One moment, it looked like bizarre street behavior. The next, it turned into violence.

And that’s the real issue here: unpredictability. When behavior crosses from attention-seeking into physical harm, it creates an environment where anyone in public spaces becomes a potential target.

As the investigation continues, police are urging anyone with information to come forward. Meanwhile, residents in one of D.C.’s busiest entertainment districts are left asking a simple question: how did something so strange turn so dangerous, so fast?
