Accused serial sextortionist arrested multiple times; more victims come forward

Date:

Baton Rouge — A 23-year-old man has been arrested multiple times in Louisiana after investigators say he secretly recorded sexual encounters and used the footage to extort his victims, with more than five people reporting similar experiences to law enforcement.

Authorities identified the suspect as Jauan Wright, who is accused of targeting men through social media and dating apps, recording sexual encounters without consent and then threatening to release the videos or images unless his demands were met.

According to investigators, the first reported incident occurred in early 2024 after a victim said Wright recorded a sexual encounter and later threatened to send screenshots to friends and acquaintances when the victim cut off contact. Images were later sent to multiple people, prompting a police report.

Additional cases were reported throughout 2025. In one incident involving a college student, police said Wright allegedly recorded another encounter without consent and later threatened to distribute the footage. He was initially cited on a misdemeanor charge but remained under investigation as more complaints surfaced.

Weeks later, authorities say Wright again recorded a sexual encounter at an apartment complex and demanded continued communication on social media. When the victim refused, investigators say the video was sent to several people, including a family member.

In another case, police said Wright posed as a woman on a dating app, exchanged explicit photos with a man and then threatened to release the images unless the victim agreed to have sex. After the encounter, investigators say the victim paid Wright money, but the images were still distributed.

Wright has since been arrested in multiple jurisdictions on a range of charges, including extortion, video voyeurism, nonconsensual disclosure of private images and improper communication. Authorities said the total number of charges spans multiple incidents and victims.

Investigators believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward and are urging anyone with information to contact law enforcement.

The case highlights growing concerns among police about sextortion schemes, particularly those involving dating apps and social media platforms, where victims may be reluctant to report crimes due to fear or embarrassment.
