MAYWOOD, N.J. — A chaotic and violent scene unfolded inside a Bergen County fitness center when a naked man allegedly attacked a gym patron and four police officers before being subdued with a Taser, authorities said.
Police were called to the HUMC Fitness and Wellness Center on April 25 after reports of an emotionally disturbed individual behaving erratically in the locker room, according to Maywood Police Chief Terrence Kenny.
When officers arrived, they found 34-year-old Kyle Delarosa of Emerson naked and pinning a gym patron against a wall, officials said. Additional officers responded to assist as the situation escalated quickly.
Despite repeated verbal commands, Delarosa allegedly refused to comply and instead took an aggressive stance, reportedly taunting officers to shoot him. Police attempted multiple de-escalation tactics, but when those efforts failed, officers used pepper spray, batons, and ultimately a Taser to bring him under control.
Authorities said Delarosa continued to resist arrest and physically assaulted four officers during the struggle. The officers sustained minor injuries but did not require hospitalization.
Investigators also determined that significant damage was done to the men’s locker room during the incident.
After receiving medical treatment, Delarosa was charged with multiple offenses, including aggravated assault on law enforcement officers, resisting arrest, burglary, criminal mischief, lewdness, criminal sexual contact, and false imprisonment.
Police noted that Delarosa has an extensive prior record dating back years, with several previous charges including DUI and burglary. He is currently being held at the Bergen County Jail pending a court hearing.
The incident remains under investigation.
