What reportedly began as a dating app meetup in Houston ended with a tense police standoff and a suspect in custody after authorities say a man forced his way into a home and threatened multiple people inside.
According to the Houston Police Department, officers responded to a disturbance around 9 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of West Alabama Street and Brandt Road. Investigators say the suspect had allegedly connected with one of the residents through a dating app before arriving at the home.
Police say the situation escalated when the man reportedly forced his way inside the residence and threatened the four people who were in the home at the time. Authorities have not publicly released details about what led to the confrontation or what specific threats were made.
The four occupants were able to safely escape the house before officers arrived, according to HPD. However, investigators say the suspect remained barricaded inside and refused commands to come out.
Houston police deployed multiple units to the scene, including patrol officers and K9 teams, as the standoff continued. After a police response lasting several hours, officers were eventually able to take the suspect into custody without reported injuries.
Neighbors in the area reportedly watched the heavy police presence unfold as flashing lights surrounded the residential block late into the night. Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s identity or announced what charges he may face.
