Zelig Williams Vanished After a Mysterious SOS Alert — Now a Podcast Is Exposing the Chilling Gaps in His Disappearance

Date:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A new podcast is shining renewed attention on the mysterious disappearance of Broadway dancer Zelig Williams, a case that has remained unsolved since he vanished from South Carolina in 2024.

The podcast, part of NBC’s “Dateline: Missing in America” series and produced in collaboration with the Black and Missing Foundation, revisits the circumstances surrounding Williams’ disappearance and highlights ongoing efforts to find him. The series aims to bring national attention to missing persons cases that often receive limited coverage, particularly involving people of color.

Williams, 28, was last seen on Oct. 3, 2024, after leaving his home in Columbia. Family members reported receiving an emergency SOS alert from his phone shortly after he departed, raising immediate concern.

The following day, authorities discovered his vehicle abandoned near the Palmetto Trail, close to Congaree National Park, with no clear signs of what happened next.

Investigators have not ruled out any possibilities, including foul play, and continue to urge the public to come forward with information.

Williams, a former performer in Broadway productions including “Hamilton” and “MJ the Musical,” had recently returned to his hometown and was described by loved ones as dedicated, talented and deeply connected to his family.

The new podcast explores unanswered questions in the case, including the significance of the SOS alert, the condition and location of his abandoned car, and whether Williams may have experienced a mental health crisis or encountered someone prior to his disappearance.

Family members continue to advocate for awareness, saying the renewed spotlight offers hope that someone may come forward with critical information.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about Williams’ whereabouts to contact the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
