Murder Suspect Climbs Into Ceiling During Interrogation—Tased Mid-Escape, Police Say

NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP) — A Delaware murder suspect accused in the killing of a 42-year-old woman allegedly attempted a dramatic escape while in police custody, climbing into the ceiling of an interview room before troopers stopped him with a Taser, authorities said.

Shawn Wooten, 24, was arrested Tuesday in connection with the November 2024 death of Amie Bradley, whose body was discovered near a retention pond outside Christiana Hospital, according to Delaware State Police.

Investigators allege Bradley, a North Carolina resident, was strangled and that Wooten attempted to sexually assault her before fleeing the state. Authorities said he remained on the run for more than a year before an indictment allowed officers to take him into custody.

But the case took a chaotic turn shortly after his arrest.

During a break in questioning at a state police facility, Wooten allegedly tried to escape by climbing into the ceiling of the interview room. Troopers quickly responded, swarming the area and deploying a Taser to stop him before he could get away, police said.

The attempted escape triggered a significant police presence outside the Troop 2 barracks in Glasgow as authorities worked to secure the scene.

Wooten is currently being held on more than $2 million cash bail and is expected to face additional charges related to the escape attempt, officials said.

The investigation into Bradley’s death remains ongoing.
