A Polk County pastor is facing multiple felony charges after investigators allege he engaged in sexual activity with a 14-year-old boy he met through a dating application and failed to disclose that he was HIV-positive before the encounters, according to Florida authorities.
The 42-year-old pastor was arrested following an investigation by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. Detectives allege the pastor used a dating app to communicate with the teenager before arranging meetings that resulted in sexual contact. Authorities say the victim was under Florida’s age of consent, leading to charges that include lewd battery involving a minor. Investigators further allege the pastor did not inform the teen of his HIV-positive status prior to the encounters, resulting in an additional criminal charge under Florida law.
Sheriff’s investigators said the case highlights the dangers minors face on online platforms where adults can misrepresent themselves or exploit vulnerable users. Officials have not indicated whether they believe there may be additional victims, but the investigation remains ongoing.
