Scientists warn that rising global temperatures could permanently disrupt the Queen of Christmas’ annual hibernation cycle.
In what experts are calling one of the most alarming consequences of climate change to date, global warming has reportedly caused Mariah Carey to begin defrosting several weeks ahead of her traditional November 1 awakening.
The legendary singer, who typically spends January through October frozen in a luxurious block of ice somewhere beneath the North Pole, was reportedly showing signs of movement as early as mid-September.
Researchers first became concerned when monitoring equipment detected faint whistle notes coming from beneath the ice, followed by an unexplained spike in glitter production and the distant sound of sleigh bells.
“Historically, Mariah doesn’t begin thawing until the final hours of Halloween,” explained fictional climate scientist Dr. Harold Winters. “But with global temperatures continuing to rise, we’re seeing unprecedented melting around her containment chamber. At this rate, she could be fully operational before people finish their Halloween decorations.”
The situation escalated earlier this week when Carey reportedly opened one eye, whispered “It’s ti—” and caused Christmas decorations to spontaneously appear in three neighboring states.
Retailers have already begun preparing for the possibility of an early Christmas season. Several stores reportedly abandoned their Halloween displays after employees began hearing the opening notes of “All I Want for Christmas Is You” coming from the ventilation systems.
Meanwhile, environmental activists are demanding immediate action, warning that Carey’s premature awakening could have devastating consequences for the global holiday calendar.
“If Mariah starts singing in October, Christmas could eventually begin in August,” one fictional environmental advocate warned. “We’re talking about pumpkin spice lattes and peppermint mochas existing at the same time. The ecosystem simply cannot sustain that.”
Scientists are particularly concerned about what they describe as the Carey Feedback Loop, a theoretical phenomenon in which rising temperatures accelerate Mariah’s defrosting, causing increased Christmas music exposure, which leads to excessive holiday lighting, higher electricity consumption and further warming.
Despite growing concerns, Carey’s fictional representatives have reassured the public that the singer remains under observation and that additional industrial freezers have been installed to delay her full emergence.
However, those efforts may already be too late.
At press time, researchers reported that the ice had completely melted, a red sequined bodysuit had been spotted near the containment chamber, and an unidentified voice was heard declaring, “I don’t know her,” when asked about Halloween.
Authorities are now urging Americans to remain calm, conserve energy and avoid playing the opening five seconds of Carey’s 1994 holiday classic until November.
