Police Say He Secretly Filmed Men and Boys in Colonial Williamsburg Bathrooms for Nearly 30 Years — Judge Sentences Him to House Arrest

Date:

A Virginia man accused of secretly filming men and boys inside public bathrooms in Colonial Williamsburg over the course of nearly three decades has been sentenced to two years of house arrest after pleading guilty to multiple charges.

According to court documents, 77-year-old George West of Gloucester County pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of obscene material for distribution and three counts involving the filming of non-consenting nude minors. Prosecutors dropped several additional charges as part of the plea agreement, including multiple counts tied to filming adults without consent.

Authorities say the case first came to light in August 2025 after witnesses allegedly caught West recording people inside a public restroom near South Henry Street and Duke of Gloucester Street in Colonial Williamsburg. Police later claimed the investigation uncovered evidence suggesting West had secretly filmed “thousands of males” in public restrooms dating back to 1996.

Investigators said officers found explicit images on West’s phone after witnesses confronted him and reported seeing him attempting to delete files. Police later obtained search warrants for his devices and vehicle, eventually alleging that some of the images and videos had been uploaded online and shared with others.

As part of the sentence, West will remain under electronic monitoring and supervised probation for two years. He is also prohibited from consuming drugs or alcohol, barred from Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, and Water Country USA, and forbidden from having unsupervised contact with minors. In addition, he must register as a sex offender and delete all illegally obtained images.

Williamsburg Commonwealth’s Attorney Nate Green described the case as “unique and very troubling,” pointing specifically to both the nature of the allegations and the length of time investigators believe the conduct occurred. Prosecutors said the sentence was intended to balance punishment, community safety, and West’s advanced age.

The case drew additional public attention last year after West was removed from his role as a deacon at Union Baptist Church in Hayes, Virginia. Church leadership publicly addressed the allegations and announced his removal from both leadership and church membership.
