Charlotte, N.C. — A Charlotte man has been arrested and charged with second-degree forcible rape following an alleged assault earlier this year.
Authorities say the incident took place in April, after the victim and the suspect, identified as 25-year-old Troy May, met at a local music studio. According to investigators, the two interacted inside the studio before leaving together and sitting in a vehicle. The victim told police the encounter became physical, and when they attempted to stop, May allegedly ignored their refusals and forced sexual intercourse.
The person reported that they cried and tried to push him away, but May continued. They later contacted police after receiving multiple calls from him, during which he allegedly acknowledged the encounter. Detectives launched an investigation, and a warrant was later issued for his arrest.
May was taken into custody on October 23 and faces a felony charge of second-degree forcible rape. Details regarding bond, future court dates, or legal representation had not been released as of press time.
Under North Carolina law, second-degree forcible rape is a serious offense that carries the potential for significant prison time if convicted. Police have not released additional information as the investigation remains ongoing.
The case has drawn attention to the importance of consent and safety in informal and private settings, especially in situations involving social media interactions and creative collaborations.
Authorities are asking anyone with additional information connected to this case to contact Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
