A routine food delivery turned into something a Houston family never expected when their DoorDash driver allegedly arrived at their home completely naked.
The bizarre encounter happened Aug. 24 at the northeast Houston home of Kiante Matlock. Matlock told FOX 26 Houston that he was inside playing a video game while his daughter was also home when a notification indicated their food had been delivered. When Matlock checked his Ring doorbell camera, however, he said he saw the delivery driver outside without any clothing.
According to Matlock, the driver placed the order at the home and left. The incident was captured by the family’s doorbell camera, leaving Matlock stunned by what he had just seen. Matlock said he regularly uses DoorDash but decided to throw the food away after viewing the footage.
He then reported what happened to DoorDash. The company refunded the order and confirmed that the driver had been permanently removed from the platform.
DoorDash didn’t mince words when addressing the incident.
“What this consumer experienced was abhorrent,” a company spokesperson told FOX 26, describing the driver’s conduct as “vulgar and completely unacceptable.” The company said it does not tolerate sexual harassment or misconduct and is prepared to cooperate with law enforcement if an investigation takes place.
Doorbell Camera Turned a Strange Delivery Into Evidence
The incident also demonstrates how dramatically doorbell cameras have changed encounters at people’s homes. Had Matlock simply retrieved his order without checking the footage, he might never have known exactly how it had been delivered.
Houston police told FOX 26 that residents who experience concerning or inappropriate behavior should report it and preserve available evidence, including footage from Ring cameras and other surveillance systems. Police noted that whether conduct could result in criminal charges would depend on the circumstances and an investigation.
There has been no widely reported announcement that the driver has been arrested or charged in connection with this incident. Being naked in public can potentially raise legal questions, but the specific facts and intent matter when determining whether conduct violates criminal law.
DoorDash Says the Driver Won’t Be Coming Back
For DoorDash, however, the company’s decision was immediate and apparently permanent.
The driver’s access to the platform was terminated after the company learned about the delivery. DoorDash said complaints involving inappropriate behavior can be submitted through its app and are reviewed by its Trust & Safety team. Customers who believe they are in immediate danger are encouraged to contact emergency services.
The driver’s reason for making a delivery without clothing remains unclear. No verified public explanation from the driver has surfaced in the reporting surrounding the incident.
Whatever the explanation may eventually be, one consequence is already certain: this was his last delivery for DoorDash.
