Grady Hospital Worker Killed After Late-Night Encounter — Suspect Confesses

Date:

A suspect has been arrested and charged in the fatal shooting of a Grady Memorial Hospital employee, with police confirming the accused later confessed—though key questions about motive remain unanswered.

Shaunterrio “Shaun” Hudson, 36, a stroke team technologist at Grady, was killed April 5 in Forest Park after being shot while driving along Watts Road. Authorities say Hudson was struck by gunfire through the driver’s-side window, causing his vehicle to veer off the road and crash into a tree near Bartlett Road. First responders found him outside the wrecked vehicle, and he was later pronounced dead.

Investigators initially had little information about what led to the shooting, but the case quickly progressed after surveillance footage revealed Hudson had been seen earlier at a gas station with 20-year-old Quindaris Garrett. Detectives later located Garrett outside a BP gas station in Forest Park, where he was taken into custody. Police say he also had an active warrant out of Cobb County at the time of his arrest.

During a search, officers recovered a 9mm handgun and a bloody shirt believed to be connected to the shooting. According to authorities, Garrett later confessed to killing Hudson during questioning. He has since been charged with murder.

Despite the arrest and confession, investigators have not publicly established a clear motive. It remains unclear whether the shooting stemmed from a prior dispute, a chance encounter, or another set of circumstances. Police say the investigation is ongoing as they continue to gather evidence and determine what led up to the deadly incident.

Hudson’s death has left a lasting impact on colleagues at Grady Memorial Hospital, where he worked behind the scenes as part of the stroke response team. Known for his precision and calm demeanor in high-pressure situations, Hudson played a critical role in life-saving procedures. Those who knew him say he was deeply committed to his work and to helping others.

As the case moves forward, Hudson’s family, friends and coworkers are left mourning a man whose career was dedicated to saving lives, even as authorities continue working to fully understand why his life was taken.
