A Florida man is facing a first-degree murder charge after authorities say he followed a delivery driver across multiple counties and fatally shot him in what investigators describe as a prolonged road rage incident.
The shooting occurred April 16 at a FedEx facility in Riviera Beach, where police say Tyler Vidro tracked down Nathaniel Padgett, a 34-year-old FedEx driver who had been working his delivery route earlier that day. According to an arrest report, the encounter began on Florida’s Turnpike near Port St. Lucie when Vidro allegedly pulled alongside Padgett’s delivery truck and attempted to provoke a confrontation.
Investigators say Padgett did not engage and continued driving, but Vidro followed the truck for roughly 40 miles into Palm Beach County. The pursuit ended at the FedEx distribution center, where authorities say Vidro entered the property and waited.
Surveillance video and witness statements indicate Padgett later exited the facility and got into his personal vehicle. Police say Vidro approached him, accusing him of hitting his car. Despite attempts by Padgett to leave the area, investigators allege Vidro continued to confront him.
At one point, Padgett picked up a concrete object, but authorities say video evidence shows he did not throw it or make a threatening move before the shooting began.
Police say Vidro then opened fire, striking Padgett multiple times. Padgett was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Authorities say Vidro fled the scene but later contacted law enforcement, claiming he acted in self-defense. Investigators dispute that account, alleging Vidro initiated the confrontation, followed Padgett across county lines and continued the encounter after arriving at private property.
Vidro has been charged with first-degree premeditated murder and aggravated stalking. He is being held without bond as the case proceeds.
The investigation remains ongoing.
