A tragic case out of Oklahoma has drawn national attention after TikTok influencer Sara Gilson, 43, was allegedly shot and killed by her estranged husband, Jeremiah “Shawn” Duffey, 48, before he turned the gun on himself in what authorities are investigating as a murder-suicide. The shooting occurred on July 23 at Gilson’s home in Owasso after a child inside the residence called 911. Responding officers found both Gilson and Duffey dead from gunshot wounds.
The deaths came less than two weeks after Gilson posted a viral TikTok video accusing Duffey of being a pedophile. Using a popular “Netflix documentary” trend, Gilson hinted she was preparing to expose disturbing allegations involving her soon-to-be ex-husband. The video quickly gained millions of views across social media and sparked widespread discussion online.
Court records show Gilson had previously sought legal protection from Duffey. She filed protective orders in 2021 and again in June 2026, alleging he had threatened her, possessed a firearm, and was behaving erratically. The most recent emergency protective order reportedly required Duffey to remain at least 100 miles away from her and was still active at the time of the shooting.
Separate court filings also reveal another woman obtained a protective order on behalf of her 15-year-old daughter, alleging Duffey, who had coached youth basketball, engaged in inappropriate contact with the teenager and attempted to pay her to remain silent. Those allegations had not resulted in a public criminal conviction at the time of the deaths.
The investigation into the fatal shooting remains ongoing. Authorities have not announced any additional suspects and continue to review the circumstances leading up to the apparent murder-suicide.
