Miami Man Accused of Rigging Street Gambling Game, Scamming Victims Out of Thousands

Date:

A Miami man is facing multiple felony charges after police say he participated in a rigged street gambling scheme that allegedly swindled victims out of thousands of dollars in cash and valuables in downtown Miami. Authorities arrested 20-year-old Jordan Alexander Bustillo after an investigation linked him to a bottle-cap and shell-game style operation that targeted unsuspecting passersby.

According to investigators, one victim lost approximately $4,000 after being persuaded to participate in what appeared to be a simple bottle cap gambling game near Northeast Fifth Street. Police say the victim later learned the game was allegedly part of a well-known scam operating in the downtown and Brickell areas. When he demanded his money back, the suspects reportedly refused and fled with the cash.

Detectives allege Bustillo worked alongside other participants who posed as successful players and spectators to make the game appear legitimate. Authorities say the operation relied on sleight-of-hand techniques, distractions, and staged wins designed to convince victims that they could beat the game. In reality, police say the outcome was manipulated from the beginning.

In a separate incident, another victim reportedly lost $4,000 and a Rolex watch valued at roughly $7,000 after being lured into a similar game. Investigators said accomplices created the illusion that the victim knew where the hidden ball was located before the game was secretly manipulated. The victim wagered his watch and lost.

When police later searched Bustillo’s residence, investigators reportedly discovered large amounts of cash, high-end watches, jewelry, and a stolen firearm. Authorities said more than $33,000 in cash was recovered during the investigation. Bustillo now faces charges including organized scheme to defraud, grand theft, and obtaining property through gaming.

The case serves as a reminder that classic street confidence scams remain active despite their age. Law enforcement officials warn that games involving cups, bottle caps, cards, or hidden objects are often designed so that the player cannot win, regardless of what appears to happen in front of them.
