Takoma Park, Md. — A Takoma Park man has been arrested and charged after police say he disguised himself as a woman and secretly recorded women inside gym locker rooms across multiple counties.
Authorities identified the suspect as Tshikundi Taty, 44, who is accused of entering women’s locker rooms at several fitness centers while wearing a wig, face covering, and women’s clothing. Investigators say he targeted locations in both Montgomery County and Prince George’s County, including facilities in Germantown, Hyattsville, and White Oak.
Police launched their investigation after a woman showering at a fitness club reported that she believed she was being filmed. Staff reviewed security footage and allegedly observed a disguised individual entering and spending extended periods inside the women’s locker area.
During surveillance by law enforcement, officers reportedly observed Taty entering another gym and heading toward the women’s locker room in disguise. He was taken into custody shortly afterward.
Detectives say Taty had visited at least one gym more than a dozen times, staying for hours at a time. Investigators believe he used shower stalls to hide and record women without their knowledge. Authorities are now reviewing footage and gym check-in logs to determine whether there are additional victims.
Prosecutors argued in court that the incidents represent a severe breach of privacy and pose a significant community safety concern, particularly in spaces where individuals expect privacy and safety. A judge ordered Taty held without bond during his initial court appearance.
Police say the investigation is ongoing, and more charges may be filed as evidence is reviewed. Officials are urging anyone who believes they may have been a victim to contact law enforcement.
