Florida Couple Wakes Up to Find Man Hiding Under Their Hotel Bed After Sleeping Above Him for Hours

Date:

DORAL, Fla. — A Florida couple’s hotel stay turned into a frightening ordeal after they discovered a man allegedly hiding underneath their bed after they had been sleeping directly above him for hours.

Ritchel Calvaire, 25, was arrested Sept. 10 following the incident at the Provident Doral hotel in Doral, Florida. He faces a felony charge of burglary of an occupied dwelling as well as a misdemeanor charge of resisting an officer without violence, according to court and arrest records cited by multiple news outlets.

According to an arrest affidavit, the couple checked into their hotel room on Sept. 9. After settling in, they reportedly closed the blinds near a rear sliding glass door and went to sleep.

Hours later, the woman began noticing something unusual.

She told investigators that at approximately 4 a.m. she woke after feeling movement near the bed. She eventually went back to sleep, but around 6:30 a.m., she reportedly felt movement again — this time apparently coming from underneath the bed.

The unsettling situation became clear at approximately 7:45 a.m. when the woman looked underneath the bed while checking to make sure she had not misplaced any of her belongings.

Instead, police say she discovered Calvaire hiding beneath it.

The couple immediately left the room and contacted hotel security. When an officer responded, Calvaire was allegedly still underneath the bed and was taken into custody.

Investigators allege Calvaire had entered the occupied room without permission by climbing over a balcony fence and gaining access through a rear sliding glass door. Police said he then concealed himself underneath the bed while the couple remained asleep inside the room.

The arrest report also indicates Calvaire was already known to hotel personnel.

According to the hotel’s security manager, Calvaire had previously been a guest at the property but checked out on Aug. 31. Staff reportedly instructed him not to return. About two days later, he allegedly came back to retrieve belongings he had left behind and was escorted from the property by security.

Police allege he subsequently returned again, leading to the Sept. 10 encounter inside the occupied room.

Following his arrest, Calvaire was advised of his Miranda rights and declined to speak with investigators without an attorney present, according to the arrest report.

The charges against Calvaire are allegations. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
