Date:

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A 29-year-old man was arrested after a robbery outside a Baton Rouge business on Jan. 2 escalated into a shooting that left both the alleged robber and his victim wounded, police said.

Police responded about 1:12 p.m. Friday to a report of gunfire at the Neighborhood Snack House on Annette Street, according to Baton Rouge Police Department arrest documents. Officers found a man with multiple gunshot wounds to his lower body.

Officials identified the suspect as Jackie Jackson Jr. Jackson allegedly approached the victim outside the snack house, displayed a handgun and demanded money. Police say the victim handed over about $20 before Jackson fired shots at him.

The victim then drew his own firearm and shot Jackson in the abdomen, police said. Jackson drove himself to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and later taken into custody.

Jackson was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of attempted first-degree murder and armed robbery with a firearm, according to arrest records.

Police have not released an update on the victim’s condition. Investigators continue to review surveillance video and witness statements as part of the ongoing investigation.
