Let’s talk about it, because everybody else already is.
This week, Jussie Smollett and Karamo Brown went from “old friends” to the couple everybody’s phone is blowing up about. TMZ caught them spending an entire day together in LA — lunch with Karamo’s mama, running errands, a hike up Runyon Canyon, and enough hand-holding and chin-cupping to make it very clear this isn’t a casual thing. Then Karamo went on the “Reality With The King” podcast and basically confirmed it himself, saying he’s “100 percent sure” he’s met his equal and calling his new man his future husband. And just to punctuate the whole thing, they were spotted kissing at the airport.
The internet has feelings. Some of y’all are already calling it a mess. But before we pile on, let’s actually look at why this pairing might work better than the discourse is giving it credit for.
They’re not strangers. This isn’t two people who matched on an app last week. Jussie and Karamo go back to their Sherman Oaks days, when they were neighbors and Karamo used to help him tape auditions. In 2018, Jussie stood on a stage and presented Karamo with the HRC Visibility Award, calling him “my dear friend, my brother, my comrade” — while Karamo’s longtime partner sat in the room. That’s not chemistry manufactured for the cameras. That’s a foundation that’s been sitting there for almost a decade, waiting to see what it could become once timing lined up.
They’ve both been through it publicly. Jussie is coming off the end of a nearly three-year engagement, and Karamo has had his own very public relationship history play out in front of an audience. Two people who’ve had their personal lives dissected before tend to either run from that spotlight together or brace for it together — and everything about how loud and unbothered they’re being right now says they picked the second option. Karamo said it plainly: he’s not being coy about this.
The astrology actually backs this up. Jussie is a Cancer, Karamo is a Scorpio — and if you know your water signs, you know that’s not a small thing. Cancer and Scorpio are two of the most emotionally fluent signs in the zodiac. They don’t do surface-level. They bond through depth, loyalty, and an almost psychic read on each other’s moods, which is exactly why this is moving fast and looking intense rather than tentative. Water signs recognize water signs. When two people who feel everything that deeply find each other, it either burns hot and fast and flames out, or it becomes the kind of bond neither of them saw coming. Given the history these two already share, it’s looking a lot more like the second.
They’re choosing visibility, not secrecy. In a climate where plenty of couples — especially same-sex couples with public baggage — would run from cameras, these two are hiking in daylight, eating lunch with somebody’s mother, and kissing at the airport. That’s a choice. Whatever people think about the timing or the optics, they’re not hiding, and that kind of confidence usually comes from somewhere real.
Is it fast? Yes. Is the internet going to have opinions regardless of what these two do? Also yes. But two people with real history, real emotional depth, and the nerve to be public about it while everybody’s watching — that’s usually more staying power than the skeptics want to admit.
