Popular vlogger James Neil is facing backlash after posting a video aimed directly at his gay followers, telling them he does not want gifts, money, shoes, or flirtatious messages from men online.
In the clip, Neil appeared fresh out of the shower wearing only a towel while addressing viewers in a blunt and profanity-filled rant. He said he can “always see through a gay man” and accused some followers of trying to buy him things or send him money in an attempt to get close to him.
“I’m a man, I can buy my own shoes,” Neil said in the video. “I’m a man, I can feed my own family.”
While he claimed he has no problem hanging out with gay people “as long as everything’s respect,” the tone of the video quickly became more aggressive as he explained why he avoids responding to direct messages from male followers.
“This why I don’t inbox a lot of y’all men,” he said. “I don’t like no men. I don’t want you to Cash App me. I don’t want you to buy me no shoes.”
The video quickly spread across social media, triggering heated debate online. Some viewers defended Neil, saying he was simply establishing boundaries and making his sexuality clear. Others accused him of pushing stereotypes about gay men by implying that kindness, gifts, or support from gay followers automatically come with hidden intentions.
Critics also pointed out that influencers often benefit financially from supporters of all backgrounds, making the public callout feel unnecessary to many viewers.
As clips from the rant continue circulating, reactions remain sharply divided — with supporters calling the comments “real” while critics say the video came off more hostile than honest.
